Customer Questions & Answers for
TAYLORMADE r7 Iron Set 4-PW, GW with Steel Shafts

TaylorMade r7 Iron Set 4-PW, GW with Steel Shafts An inverted cone construction gives a higher COR and ball speed on mis-hits, resulting in increased average ball speed and increased average distance, while a dampening web of soft alluminum and high-tech bonding soaks up harsh vibratoins giving the Taylormade r7 Irons a phenomenally soft-yet-solid feel at impact. With its deep cavity design, the Taylormade r7 Irons have a low and deep CG, making them easy to launch for an optimum combination of carry and control. Their moderate offset promotes the optimum combination of direction and trajectory for increased ball control and increased accuracy. T Step 90 (90-gram) steel shaft encourages a dynamic relase to promote even more speed and extreme distance, while a TaylorMade logo grip increases feel, comfort, and traction to promote the best performance of any irons you've ever hit.

Questions & Answers for TAYLORMADE r7 Iron Set 4-PW, GW with Steel Shafts

Question
r7 irons, should i get praphite shafts?
1. I am a senior just getting serious about golf as a retirement hobby. Should i get graphite shafts for my low club head speed and vibration?
2. Are the r7 irons a good choice for forgiving clubs?

ECB1 this depends on your swing speed and certain conditions. If you suffer from arthritis a graphite shaft wont vibrate as much as a steel shaft. Also the graphite shafts are lighter resulting in faster swingspeeds which equals more distance. 2. The r7 irons are extremely forgiving. I own a set myself and have hit all kinds bad contact shots with good results

Question
I am looking at buying new irons. How do I decide between the R7s @ 399 , the Tour Burners @ 499 and the Burners @ 699?
I have just started getting back into golf this year after not playing much the last 5 years. I am playing Wilson 1200LTs that were given to me 15 years ago. Anything will be an upgrade but how do you decide between the three sets?

Thanks,
Mike

I would say that if your looking for forgiveness all sets will provide that.
The tour burners are a bigger blade with a lower cg then the r-7's.
The r-7's have a slight bit more offset, but I think they are a little bit more workable for shot control.
The burners are really a mix between the other 2 sets, they are slightly longer in length and have a very thin face for exceptional ball speed and distance off the face.

The actual distance will depend on your swing speed and ball striking ability. In most cases you will hit this GW 7-10 yards shorter than your PW.

Question
Should I need a custom fit irons?
I've playing golf since 3 months now. and so far I'm using $200 a starter set. I'm enjoying this game almost everyday nowadays, and I guess I'm around 90 now. I'm 37, 6.1' 220lb. I took a lesson, the instructor said I'm a prime candidate for a custom fitted irons set as I'm taller than the average.
However, as always, the budget matters. I checked GolfSmith's smart club fitting and found I need +0.5" longer shaft, but this means I have to spend min $700-$800 for irons+wedges.
If it's only +0.5" longer shaft, can I just use the normal and save $400? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I think having a good club fit is a good idea. If your pro says you need a half inch longer i would maybe play the clubs at standard and see how they work for you, you could alway get them reshafted or extended at a furture date.
